Introducing Prunes To My Kids with The Pioneer Woman’s Prune Cake

I do not have good prune memories from my childhood. I thought of prunes, well prune juice, as a form of torture and only made going to the bathroom more dramatic. Well gosh darn it, no longer I say!

When I introduce new foods to my kids, I want it to be fun and without parental prejudice so I hunted for a fun prune recipe. And Guess what I found? Prune Cake by the lovely Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. I knew I could count on her.

Enjoy the video and see their verdict at the end.

Do you like Prunes?

Voting is still open for the Greek to me Twice-Baked Potato contest.

They are adorable in the video. I’ve never seen kids so happy to eat prunes before, I guess it’s different when it’s cake though! 😀

Can’t wait to try this cake! And speaking of prunes and pooping, one of our favorite books right now is The Story of the Little Mole Who Went in Search of Whodunit by Werner Holzwarth, wherein a mole gets pooped on and tries to find out whodunit… your cuties might enjoy it!

My husband makes a “Klingon Ale” with prune juice. It’s pretty damn good. And my kids think it’s funny that prunes make you poop, because, as you know, pooping is just hilarious.

I do love prunes. They make a great sweetener and add so much moisture to baked goods.

My mom and I were just talking today about how we demolished The Pioneer Women’s Prune cake in practically one sitting! Delish and your kids are adorable!

Ok that was super cute. I need to track down that song for my kids just so I can watch them squat and spin with their eyes closed and their tongues out! :)~ Your prune cake sounds delicious. I have a nefarious past with prunes as well, but I could definitely enjoy them in this form.
