A Day In The Life…..Silence!

Excuse me while I type and only type and not talk at all for the next few weeks. Well, I guess you are used to that but my family is not. See people, for the next few weeks there will be No Talking! Only hand gestures, finger snapping, clapping, notes and steroid inhalers.

I knew something was wrong in my throat and sure enough, I have a nodule on my vocal cords. The doctor assumes from ‘vocal abuse’. I think it happened at a fundraiser we were at 1.5 weeks ago. You know how you have to strain to talk loudly over bands? yeah, that.

The doctor told me that now is the golden opportunity to reverse it by keeping my mouth shut and letting the cords heal. So, I will do my best. I am mastering note writing and gestures – luckily, I have always have had an ‘expressive’ face. Now, is when it becomes an advantage.

Wednesday, March 14th

6:00 Showered and got babes up and dressed them all crrraaazzzy to celebrate Albert Einstein’s birthday.

8:00 Home to read and address emails, prep to see ENT.

9:00 ENT: the probe they put up your nose to look at your throat is quite unpleasant. Feels like the most chlorinated water you ever got up your nose that makes your eyes water while you are being told not to swallow.

10:00 Home to clean, sob a little, realize this is not a big deal on the scale of health issues, cleaned, more emailing.

10:45 Dental cleaning, Pharmacy for steroid inhaler, picked up a vanilla milkshake as throat burning.*

12:30 Worked on today’s Ziploc post (you must check it out!) and did some Udi’s Community Leader work.

2:00 My sweet husband went to get the kids from school while I draped damp towels all over the deck as it was 70 degrees and then I vacuumed.

2:30 Playtime with our babes & made some crispy baked fish.

4:15 Errand time: TJ Maxx, Target for a new Dyson (still sweating over the $$), Trader Joe’s and DSW.

7:00 Home to get babes into bed.

8:30 Cuddle time with hubby.

10:00 Bedtime but stayed up way too late reading these two books by two of my friends:

The Naptime Chef: fitting great food into family life

The Everything Couponing Book

*Note: I have decided that insurance companies should cover milkshakes, ice cream, soup and iced coffee consumption during vocal cord nodule recovery.

Not talking stinks! I hope you get better soon… I realized when I got my wisdom teeth out about 10 years ago that I loved knowing sign language… until I realized that most people I talk with don’t. It didn’t help! Good luck with the limited communication.
