This past Saturday, following soccer and a play-date, we headed downtown to the annual Duck Race. This is the 8th year in a row we have attended…..sort of a tradition.

The event begins with lots of vendors with food, face painting, and many family activities.

The highlight of the event is when a dump trucks spills 20,000 yellow rubber ducks into the Pawcatuck River and we all watch them ‘race’ towards the finish line.

The truck is a moving into place…..

Removing the net…..

Raising the bucket….

Time to start swimming duckies!

Here they come…..

This community event is the largest charitable fundraiser in the CT/RI region. Duck sponsorship certificates are available for $5.00 through the schools or non-profit organization, local businesses and at the Chamber. Over 40 local schools and non-profit organizations are selling duck sponsorship certificates to raise money for their schools PTO or non-profit organizations.

The grand prize awarded to the first winning duck to cross the finish line will be a trip for a family of 4 to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for one week, including hotel, airfare and park passes OR $2,500 cash. Over 90 additional prizes will be awarded to the winning ducks…..

We are sitting here waiting for the phone to ring…..
