Don’t fret. Besides the burgers and chicken thighs, you need more than some chips as a side dish – why yes you do! So browse these suggestions, wrap up your Labor Day Menu and go fight the lines at the grocery store.

Go!

Looking for a fun potato side dish that is different than the standard potato salad? fire up the oven for Roasted Red Potatoes with Bacon, Garlic & Parmesan and go socialize while they roast.

I know you want some fries so kick it up a notch by making these Sweet Potato Fries and Sriracha Dip – company will be impressed.

Grilled Romaine Lettuce with Feta, Tomato & Olives:  You have the grill going anyway, so grill your lettuce.

A vegetarian choice is always a good plan so Vegetarian Tortellini Salad it is!

Although not a side dish, it will seem like one if you top your hot dogs with Hawaiian Pineapple Salsa.

Finally, if you are heading to a potluck and don’t know what everyone is bringing, go for the Wheat Berry Apple Salad.

Don’t forget some Strawberry Lemonade as a refreshing beverage. If Sandra Lee is coming to your party, be sure to add some gin or vodka too!

I love getting everyone together for Labor Day. This year we decided to go for a picnic to our favorite High Park in Toronto and have a little fun with our children. But now that I’ve read your post I am looking forward to our next trip even more and I’ll definitely prepare some of the dishes you mention.
